Why Protective Behaviours ?

Did you know Protective Behaviours goes beyond sexual abuse prevention.
Providing your child with Protective Behaviours encourages “empowerment, communication, self-esteem, resilience, social skills and other life skills” (PBWA)
Providing your child with enriching life skills helps to prevent them from becoming a target of abuse and violence. By taking away your child’s vulnerability you eliminate a predator's opportunity!

Cyber-Safety Programs
"Cyber bullying is the unwanted and uninvited harassment of an individual (or more) via the use of technology that is relentless and singles out the victim(s). It predominantly affects teenagers due to social media. Cyber bullying is more likely to occur amongst those aged 12-18 years old because of the technology given to them and required for them to use. It can happen anytime and anywhere which makes it difficult for the victim to escape or hide from it. The effects of cyber bullying are extremely large compared to the known “school yard bullying”
Includes sending mean, hurtful or threatening messages or images of another person. Posting sensitive, private information for the purpose of hurting or embarrassing another or pretending to be someone else in order to make a person look bad."

Anger Management Program
Anger is a normal healthy feeling , it’s your child’s body’s early warning sign alerting them to a problem. However without the right tools anger can get to big, allowing your child to feel out of control as it appears to takeover and act in inappropriate and hurtful ways.

This program aims to teach children to harness their anger appropriately and use it in a constructive (rather than destructive) way.
Safe Counselling’s anger management program teaches children a new set of skills to allow them to understand their thoughts and control their emotional response. Anger is not something that happens to them but rather their own thoughts control their anger. This allows children to understand their thought process and understanding that gives them control over their feelings.

Safe Counselling’s Anger Management program for kids is based on a cognitive-behavioural principles.
Cognitive- allows your child to gain control over their thoughts and Behavioural- teaching them a new set of constructive skills on how to harness their anger appropriately.

Overcoming Anxiety and encouraging resilience
Does your child worry too much?
Children who worry too much are held captive by their fears. They go to great length trying avoid what they believe are frightening situations and ask the same anxiety based questions repetitively. However whatever your response or reaction may be, this leaves children who are anxious with no relief.
This 6 week program will teach your child new techniques to think about and manage anxiety encouraging your child to take control.
(Parents will be provided with information on how to reinforce these techniques at home)
The program is based on Cognitive-Behavioural techniques. Children are taught 3 principles, containment, externalisation and competing demands. New behavioural skills are taught to encourage your child to spend less time worrying, take control and actively make less room for worrying.
Practicing social skills, assertiveness training (speaking for oneself) and problem solving when things don’t go as planned (some of the anxiety occurs because children are worried that things may not work, or they won’t be able to be successful at an activity etc).
Safe Counselling will show children that if things don’t work out or mistakes happen that’s OK.
By practicing these “what if” scenarios we are making new brain synapses (think of it as memory foam for your brain) where children will take comfort knowing they know how to handle situations if they don’t work out.
We will also teach mindfulness practices encouraging your children to focus on the here and now with relaxation techniques.
